Hi, this is Dr. Amy White, audiologist at Elk Grove Hearing Care. Today I’m here to talk to you about a very specific kind of hearing aid called the Lyric. The Lyric hearing aid is a very unique device, and it’s a little tiny device that’s inserted really, really deep in the ear canal right next to the eardrum. Because this device is inserted so deeply in the ear, only your provider can put them in.
“That doesn’t make any sense; how do you ever take it out? How do you change the battery?” you may ask. Well, the answer is: You don’t. With Lyric, it’s what we call an extended-wear device. The device is made out of kind of a soft, squishy material, something like this, a really soft foam. And it has a battery that lasts up to three months. So the device is placed in the ear at your provider’s office, you go home, you sleep with it, you shower with it, it’s just there. Hopefully, you forget you even have it in.
And then, in two to three months when the battery dies, you have to return to your provider’s office to have the device replaced. That part may not be the best for some people, so it’s definitely something to consider that you will have to go to your provider’s office every few months to have that device replaced.
On the other hand, it’s really great for people who do not want to deal with hearing aids, or if you cannot or are unable to manipulate batteries or cleaning hearing aids, or maybe you’re someone who’s becoming forgetful, you don’t know where you put your hearing aids and you’re losing them and misplacing them. Lyric can be great for those reasons.
It’s also great for people who absolutely insist on an invisible device that they absolutely don’t want anyone to know that they have hearing aids; this could be a good option for you. If you’re interested in learning more about the Lyric device, feel free to give us a call and come on in for a free trial and demo of them.
